Moderator: Jeff D’Italia, Vice President, Stratacuity

For nearly two decades Jeff has been a key influencer and active contributor to the BioPharma staffing community. Jeff oversees sales and growth initiatives as a key member of the Stratacuity leadership team.

Having worked both a recruiting and staffing sales desk for over 15 years, Jeff understands what it takes to overcome the challenges of talent acquisition in the competitive life science arena. Formerly a bench scientist himself, Jeff is uniquely positioned to understand his client’s needs. Jeff is a passionate supporter of rare diseases and an active member of MassBio. He’s frequently involved in various local and national biotech networking events.

Outside of work, Jeff enjoys life on the seacoast with his wife and 3 boys. He’s been a competitive lifelong sailor an avid skier and has recently taken up fishing with his boys.

Ning Li, PhD, Computational Biologist, Novartis

Ning Li is an experienced computational biologist, leading a small team in the disease area at Novartis Institutes of Biomedical Research (NIBR), Cambridge, MA. She received her Ph.D. training at Beijing Normal University, China, then pursued her postdoctoral trainings at Yale University and Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical school, where she gained extensive biomedical research experience in the gut microbiome. At NIBR, Ning takes more responsibilities than just research, and is actively involved in formulating the data science strategy decision making process in her department. She has strong interest in increasing the contribution and impact of data science in drug discovery, and in bridging gaps in an interdisciplinary research environment.

Kristin Rowe, Director, People Operations, Magenta Therapeutics

Kristin has spent her career focusing on employee success. She has a combined 20 years of experience working in Higher Education, Technology and Biotech/Biopharma. Most recently she worked as a consultant with multiple biotech startups developing their Human Resource departments. Currently she is Director, People Operations at Magenta Therapeutics. She has worked on immigration cases throughout her career and brings a human resources perspective to a wide variety of industries.

Alan Pampanin, Principal, Pampanin Law Offices

Alan Pampanin founded Pampanin Law Offices in 1985 and has excelled in all areas of immigration law. Alan and his firm represent top talent in business, medicine, science and technology, pharmaceutics, biotechnology, arts, and education. Alan has worked in the area of immigration law for more than 30 years. He has served as the Chair of the New England Chapter of AILA (American immigration Lawyers Association). He was the editor of the two-volume Immigration Practice Manual published by Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education. In 2007, he was awarded for his pro-bono services by the Irish International Immigration Center of Boston. He holds the top, pre-eminent AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell and regularly appears on the annual Boston’s Best Lawyers list. Clients range from cutting edge start-ups to established companies and institutions.

Penny Rosser, Director of the International Scholars Office, Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Penny Rosser has been Director of the International Scholars Office since 2002, and supervises a staff of eight hard-working immigration advisors. She advises the MIT administration on the formation of policies and procedures related to employment and appointment of international researchers and faculty members. On behalf of MIT and the higher education community, she analyzes and responds to government regulations, procedures, and legislative initiatives impacting visas for academics. Penny provides members of the Institute administration with regulatory summaries, impact summaries, and statistics for meetings with US and foreign university administrators and government officials. She advises faculty, upper level researchers, and DLC headquarters on permanent residence processing for permanent and tenure-track positions.

Penny has served on various committees and subcommittees of NAFSA: Association of International Educators. And she has served as Dean, Chair, or Presenter for 40 workshops and conference sessions on international education and immigration.
